How to Travel to Tasmania
There are 2 options to choose from when considering a trip to
Tasmania. One is to fly and the other is to board the ferry named The
Spirit of Tasmania.
There are several airlines that fly into Tasmania.
Some are known for their budget deals and others have established an
excellent reputation through years of service. Budget lines include Jet
that offers services from Melbourne and Sydney to Hobart and Launceston.
Virgin Blue is also budget wise, providing daily services from ports
such as Hobart and Launceston. Virgin flies to all states and
Territories.
Qantas arrives daily into Hobart and Launceston out of Melbourne and
Sydney. The airline, affectionately nicknamed REX, services daily
Melbourne, Burnie, and Kings Island. Tiger Airways is low cost and
provides daily service into Launceston and Hobart from Melbourne. Tasair
Airline is based in Tasmania and operates a commuter service through
Hobart, Burnie, Devonport and King Island. Airlines of Tasmania have
both an airline and a charter service that covers all of Tasmania and
Australia. They may be your first consideration if you wish to visit
remote areas such as Flinders Island, Cape Barren Island and Tasmania’s
west coast. King Island Airlines is available from Moorabbin and a very
nice way to fly!
If you wish to take your time in arriving in
Tasmania, you may want to consider the ferry services to and from
Tasmania. The Spirit of Tasmania is a year round adventure as it travels
Bass Straight. Ports also include Station Pier in Port Melbourne and
Devonport on the north coast of Tasmania. The accommodations on The
Spirit of Tasmania range from the very budget conscious airline style
seating arrangements to deluxe cabins that are private. However you
choose to go, your comfort is the utmost importance and will be catered
to. If you choose a cabin, you will have private facilities, air
conditioning and a 220 volt socket. If you wish to travel with
everything you own, including the pets, the ferry can accommodate those
wishes. An on board kennel is at your disposal, and vehicles and
trailers of any size can ride along on board. For an additional fee, you
can bring your sports bike along with you to enjoy. For your
enjoyment, relax in the main bar called Horizons as you take in the
scenery afforded on your trip. Or order a wonderful meal to feast on as
Tasmania’s fresh fruits and veggies are highlighted for your
consideration. Book your meals once you arrive on board as they cannot
be made beforehand. The self service eatery is also available, featuring
a wonderful buffet in the restaurant known as the Waves. Here is where
you will find a contential breakfast ready for you and take away
breakfast packs. The lounge is very comfortable to enjoy a snack and
watch television. A good cup of coffee is always waiting for you there!
During the day, enjoy the deck and have a celebratory toast to cheer the
wonderful holiday you have planned.
